Looking for a fun, and frugal Christmas tradition for kids? I introduce you to the book advent! I got the idea from another mama, and we all love it.
On December 1st, the niños come downstairs to see 25-30ish books wrapped under the tree. The idea is that the niños get to open a book everyday of December until Christmas. It’s our book advent!
I have 2 kids, so I have them take turns on which days they open their presents. I had a few extras, so there are a few days where they can both unwrap a book. At the end, I stash the books away for next year, and potentially trade them out if I find any good ones at the “Friends of the Library” bookstore.
Throughout the year, my kids and I go to the “Friends of the Library” bookstores, and there are usually at least a handful of Christmas books to choose from. Most of the books I’ve purchased there have been 50 cents to 2 dollars! Total mom and budget win!!! I did purchase a few last minute this year from Costco. They had me at cute Christmas book display. I love you Costco.
This has been one of my favorite tradition for kids because these stories, and books, become apart of our family. My son remembered a few books from the previous years and was excited when he opened them. The first thing the kids ask in the morning is “Can we open a book advent?”
Other places to look for reasonable Christmas books: amazon, ebay, or walmart. Also check your local goodwill, or thrift stores. I have gotten lucky sometimes, although it is hit or miss.
